On Tuesday, Nigeria was denied victory by a last-minute goal from Tawanda Chirewa, while Zimbabwe secured a 1-1 draw in their Group C World Cup qualifying match.

Victor Osimhen gave Nigeria the lead in the 73rd minute with a well-placed header from a cross by Ola Aina.

The Super Eagles seemed on their way to three points until Chirewa scored in the ninetieth minute by eluding defenders and toe-poking the ball under goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Tolu Arokodare, who replaced Samuel Chukwueze in the 59th minute, played the first goal. He held up play and then passed to Aina, who delivered a precise shot that struck Osimhen at the far post.

Nigeria had multiple opportunities to extend their lead. In the 83rd minute, Wilfred Ndidi had a clear opportunity after Moses Simon played him in, but his shot missed the mark. Soon after, Osimhen was substituted due to a cramp, and Victor Boniface took his place.

Nigeria is now in third place in Group C after Lesotho’s late equalizer against Rwanda kept the Super Eagles from rising to second place.
