Real Madrid defeated a fierce Leganes 3-2 and pulled even with Barcelona at the top of La Liga thanks to two goals from Kylian Mbappe, while Atletico Madrid lost ground in the race for the championship.
It was predicted that Madrid would win easily by three points in the match between the reigning champions and a team attempting to avoid relegation. Leganes’ performance at the Santiago Bernabeu was anything but, as he displayed far more bite than anticipated.
Leganes shocked the home crowd by scoring immediately after the restart after Mbappe gave Madrid the lead from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute. Diego Garcia pushed home Oscar Rodríguez’s poorly hit shot after left-back Valentin Rosier ran clear on the right flank and crossed for him.
In the 41st, the southern Madrid minnow repeated the feat. Rosier took the ball from Brahim Diaz this time and ran down the middle of the field before he set Rodríguez free, who then squared the ball for Dani Raba to score.

Jude Bellingham scored the equalizer after sprinting in to complete a rebound. Following a strict foul call that Leganes contested, Mbappe scored a brace from a free kick, cutting the ball around the barrier and just inside the post.
Mbappe is just one goal short of Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona with 22 goals in La Liga.
