Following Diogo Jota’s untimely death in a vehicle accident in Spain, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp paid a heartfelt homage to the Reds attacker.

Early on Thursday morning, the 28-year-old Portuguese striker and his brother André died in a vehicle accident on the A52 close to Cernadilla, Zamora.

Klopp responded on his Instagram account, saying he’s devastated.

As he offered his condolences to Jota’s wife, Rute, and their kids, he also acknowledged how much Jota will be missed.

”I am heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother André.”

The German gaffer described Jota as a “fantastic player,” adding that he was a “great friend and a loving father.”

“We will miss you so much! All my prayers, thoughts, and power to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends, and everyone who loved them! Rest in peace.”

After acquiring the Portuguese player from Premier League team Wolves in 2020, Klopp tutored Jota while he was at Liverpool.

The Portuguese national team won the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025, and Jota collected 49 caps for the squad.

With six goals and four assists in 26 games, Jota was a key player in Liverpool’s most recent championship campaign.
