As Liverpool approaches their first summer acquisition, they are prepared to activate the release clause of Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen.

Arne Slot, another Dutchman, wants the 24-year-old, who can play on the right side, for the upcoming season, and negotiations for a deal have advanced in recent days.

According to reports, Frimpong has a release clause of about 35 million euros (£29.5 million), and Liverpool is anticipated to pay that amount.

The loss of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to sign with Real Madrid after reaffirming his intention to leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the conclusion of the current campaign, may be lessened if the Premier League winners are able to make a move for the Netherlands YUU international.

Frimpong has received recognition for his outstanding performances. He was instrumental in Leverkusen’s 2023–24 Bundesliga championship victory, scoring goals and dishing out assists. He brings a vital dimension to any club with his versatility to play both right flank.

The 26-year-old Alexander-Arnold may be replaced at right-back by Frimpong, who played for Celtic and rose through the Manchester City junior system.

He helped Leverkusen win their first Bundesliga championship in 2024 and has made 53 appearances for the club and nation this season in all competitions.

According to some estimates, the sell-on price stipulated when Frimpong left the club in 2021 might be as high as 30%, meaning that his old team, Celtic, would be entitled to a share of whatever transfer sum Leverkusen receives.
