According to Sky in Germany, Xabi Alonso will take over as Real Madrid’s new head coach before to the Club World Cup.

After a great two-and-a-half years at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won a league and cup double the previous season and almost missed an incredible undefeated treble with a Europa League final loss to Atalanta, Alonso confirmed his departure on Friday.

When Real Madrid plays Saudi Arabian team Al Hilal in Miami on June 18, it will be Alonso’s debut match as manager of the Spanish powerhouse.

“Alonso would have to start right away; Ancelotti is a difficult act to follow.”

“I am aware that we shouldn’t act hastily, but all football players are aware of this.

“Alonso, on Friday, announced he’d be leaving Bayer Leverkusen. He won the double there last season. A lot of people thought he’d go to Liverpool, but he decided to stay an extra season.

“He’s got a gentleman’s agreement with Leverkusen that if one of the clubs that he played for came in for him, then he’d be allowed to leave. So we’re talking Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid.

Sky Germany this afternoon reported they think he will definitely be the Real Madrid manager – and also he will be in place for the Club World Cup next month.

“Their first game is on June 18 against Al Hilal in Miami, so he’s somebody else who’s not really going to be getting much of a summer holiday, but then Real Madrid don’t come calling very often.

Alonso’s impending arrival follows the announcement that Ancelotti, the current Real Madrid manager, will take over as Brazil’s head coach at the end of the current campaign.

The 65-year-old will lead Brazil in their World Cup qualifying matches against Paraguay and Ecuador next month, becoming him the country’s first permanent foreign head coach.

The Brazilian FA (CBF) celebrated the “landmark moment of the coming together of two icons” in a statement, pointing to Ancelotti’s remarkable record in European football as well as their record-tying five World Cup victories.

Ancelotti has guided Real Madrid to two La Liga and Champions League doubles since returning to the Spanish capital for a second stint in 2021. However, after Sunday’s El Clasico loss to Barcelona, it is almost a certain that he will not win any hardware in his last season.

The day following their last La Liga match against Real Sociedad, he will depart the Bernabeu for the last time.
