At Estadio La Cartuja, FC Barcelona defeated archrivals Real Madrid 3–2 in extra time to win their 32nd Copa del Rey championship. A traditional El Clásico match, the game was full of late drama, spectacular performances, and changes in momentum.
Pedri’s incredible long-range goal gave Barcelona the lead in the first half. Real Madrid retaliated in the second half, with Aurélien Tchouaméni giving Madrid a 2-1 lead after replacement Kylian Mbappé equalized with a straight free-kick. Late in regulation, though, Ferran Torres tied the score, necessitating extra time. Jules Koundé scored the game-winning goal for Barcelona in the 116th minute after taking advantage of a Madrid mistake.
Another contentious moment in the game occurred when a VAR review overruled a penalty that Barcelona had been given in the 96th minute. Antonio Rüdiger, who was on the bench throughout extra time for Real Madrid, was also given a red card.
This triumph puts Barcelona on track for a possible triple this season and is their second trophy under manager Hansi Flick.
