World Cup Qualifiers: Argentina Trash Brazil 4-1 to Qualify for 2026 World Cup

The reigning World Cup champions triumphed easily at home, and Lionel Scaloni’s squad didn’t appear to be missing their best player.

With Simeone at the helm and Julian Alvarez leading the line with Mac Alister and Enzo Fernandez, Argentina easily defeated Brazil 4-1 on Tuesday night to wrap up their World Cup qualifying campaign in spectacular fashion. La Albiceleste had already qualified due to results elsewhere before the game started, but they showed no signs of ease as they defeated their most formidable opponents at home by scoring three goals in the first half and then continuing to play the second half.

Argentina had little to lose. You wouldn’t know about it. La Albiceleste had a great attacking start without Lionel Messi. After just four minutes, Alvarez gave them a 1-0 lead by finishing through the keeper’s legs after taking advantage of a few ricochets. Less than ten minutes later, Fernandez converted Nahuel Molina’s cross at the back post to give them a 2-0 lead.

Brazil, however, remained. Matheus Cunha scored a goal from outside the box in the twenty-sixth minute after barely making an impression in the first twenty-five minutes. But Argentina responded when Fernandez played a deft lobbed pass to Alexis Mac Allister, who completed the incredible move with a dink over a sprawling goalie.
